Plumbing Permits and Inspections

Plumbing permits, applications for permits, and permit questions are addressed during office hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m and 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The permit application process takes about 30 minutes. Plan to arrive at our office by 3:00 p.m. to begin a new application.

What you will need:

  • An isometric drawing of the planned plumbing project
  • Owner's complete name and phone number
  • Service address
  • Plumbers name and phone number
  • Payment: Cash or check; the cost varies by type of permit, service location, and water meter size. You may call ahead for a cost quote.

Customers located in the Town of Ithaca requiring a new water and/or sewer connection should also complete the Town of Ithaca's Request for Water and Sewer Service.

Our Field Work Guide includes typical water service information including inspection checklists, and diagrams for both municipal water and sewer services.

Inspections are required to verify plumbing is in compliance with all applicable New York State and local building codes. Do not cover, bury or otherwise hide any plumbing prior to having it properly inspected and approved by Bolton Point staff. At the time the plumbing permit is issued, the number of inspections included in the permit are explained. Additional inspection trips can be provided at additional cost.
